Credits depend on how much idle time your device contributes and current network demand. Phones earn most while charging overnight. Routers earn around the clock. We'll publish transparent earning rates at launch.

Will it slow down my phone?

No. Our custom built HeritageOS only uses GPU cycles when your device is genuinely idle. The real-time kernel guarantees under 5millisecond response time for anything you're actively doing. If you pick up your phone, compute pauses instantly.

What does "federated learning" actually mean?

The AI model comes to your device, learns from local data, and sends back only the model improvements — never the data itself. Your photos, messages, and personal information physically cannot leave your phone. It's privacy by architecture, not by promise.

Who owns the Bantu Cultural Ontology?

Bantu Data Ltd operates the infrastructure, but the data used to build the cultural knowledge belongs to the people who created it.

Can I opt out of federated learning?

Absolutely. You can contribute compute only, federated learning only, or both. You can change this anytime in settings. You can also pause all contributions with one tap.

Is this crypto mining?

No. There is no blockchain, no cryptocurrency, no proof-of-work mining. Your device performs real GPU computation — AI training, scientific simulation, data processing — for real customers who pay for it. Credits are tracked centrally and redeemable for real value.

What if I just want a cheap phone?

That works too. The Bantu Phone is a genuinely good smartphone at an ultra-low price. You can disable all compute and federated learning features and use it as a regular phone. You just won't earn credits.

I'm an AI lab. How do I buy compute?

Contact us for API access and pricing. We offer per-TFLOPS-hour compute at 50–80% below major cloud providers, with cryptographic result verification. The Bantu Cultural Ontology is available as a separate managed API.
